Viewing snapshot reports in a browser

P

Peter

This may not be quite the forum for this question but someone may be able to
point me in the right direction.

I have a report that I want all staff to be able to view, I have exported it
(as a snapshot file) to a share on a domain server that is available to all
staff.

Then I simply placed a link on the company intranet to open the file as per
MS help suggestions, and I get a mixed response when using the link.

On computers that do not have Access installed (but do have the snapshot
viewer), the user receives a prompt to either open or download the file,
clicking the Open button will open the file.

On computers where Access is installed as well as the snapshot viewer, the
user receives the same prompt, and clicking on Open will then present a login
dialogue box. All Access installs are pointed to the same company workgroup
and this is the login that is being prompted for.

Whether you login or not, the result is the same, another dialogue then
appears offering only a download option.

This is all way too much grief for simply viewing a snapshot file, I have
tried different ways of configuring the hyperlink, but with the same result.
Interestingly enough - the file opens perfectly on all computers if manually
opened in Explorer.

I also tried to embed the snapshot file into a HTM page, but I'm not much of
a HTML writer and my attempts weren't very successful.

Currently I am at the point of writing a VBS script to insert a shortcut on
all user's start menu to open the report from there using the snapshot viewer
but the intranet solution was much neater.

Any thoughts anyone?
