Views and custom fields related issue

Matteo

Dear all,
as in the subject I am facing with this step, I would create a view able to
filter on a project custom field (NOT REQUIRED) linked to a lookup table,
actually I would filter on projects with any value on this custom field
(sometime it happens because I need to keep it as NOT REQUIRED).
Anyway creating the filter I am not able to specify a rule of this type,
actually I cannot create many and linked to them because there are many
values and they increase monthly so it's not good from an effort point of
view, in the other way I don't know the syntax to say empty?

Any help?

Thank you

Matteo

From your description, it sounds like you are talking about creating a
custom Filter for a Project Center view in PWA. And it sounds like you need
a flexible filter where users can select the type of projects they want to
see whenever they apply the View containing the Filter. To answer your
question, there is no way to do this.

Here's what I would do instead: teach your people how to apply the
AutoFilter option on the custom View in the Project Center page. When you
create the View, be sure to include all columns on which you want people to
be able to filter, and then teach each user how to do this:

1. Navigate to the Project Center page.
2. Click the Settings pick list button and select the Filter option.
3. In the expanded Filter pane, select the AutoFilter check box.
4. Close the Filter pane.

At the top of every column, the user will be able to see an AutoFilter pick
list button. The user should click the AutoFilter pick list button for the
column on which he/she wants to filter and then select a value from the
list. This is how users can do a flexible filter on any particular Project
Center view. This makes your job easier as a result. Hope this helps.

I really appreciate your advice Dale, anyway I am facing with lots of bored
people here (Italy!!!) and using a feature like autofilter is "too diffucult"
for them.

Anyway I think that my problem is know the syntax to say NA to rule of the
filter.

Example:
I have a custom field named Business Unit, actually I set it not required
into the custom field properties.
When a PM forget to enter a value into the view they are grouped as "no
value" , i would create into filter properties a rule able to hide this rows..

Thank you.

Hope make it easier to understand

Thank you for your clear explanation, as I now understand your situation.
Here's the bad when you filter on a field attached to a Lookup Table
in a PWA view, you must use the "Equals" test and you must select one of the
values from the Lookup Table for the Value. Thus, this means you cannot
filter for a null or NA value. Sorry for the bad news.

Is it possible to create a filter to test is there is something in the field
rather than testing for nothing? eg. text1 Equals %
