Views in E-Global amiss after installing SP2 and hot-fix (2007)

Not sure if the SP2 update had anything to do with this, but we're having a
problem with our views in the E-Global template. The views seem to be
cross-referencing each other. For instance, when I click on the 'Calendar'
view, the name displayed in
the blue bar on the left says 'Milestone Date Rollup', yet what Project is
actually showing is the 'Gantt Chart' view. All of the views are mix-matched
and cross-referencing each other. Over the past year we created several
custom views but have never had any problems with them. Now this view mix-up
is effecting every view - stock or custom - in Project.

This problem seems to be limited to the E-Global. For instance, upon
creating a new or opening an existing project in MS Project, the views
display as normal. If I click 'Gantt Chart', the name on the left reflects
that and it actually displays the Gantt Chart. The problem seems to reside
only within the E-Global template. This is mostly an annoyance, however it
does make it difficult to adjust views in the E-Global template. We also fear
this may trigger other errors within Project.

We have tried removing the views from the E-Global, then copying them back
from a back-up project that was saved off-line. This did not work, it mainly
just crashed the MS Project program. We also tried deleting the E-Global
template from the server, reinstalling a fresh E-Global template, then
rebuilding the views from scratch. This seemed to work initially, but once we
closed Project, and reopened the app - the views cross-referenced each other
again.

Has anyone else experienced anything similar? Is this related to the SP2
update? Is there a way to fix the E-Global? We believe we have exhausted all
avenues for recovery. We may escalate this problem directly to Microsoft.

All help and advice is appreciated.
Thank you!

I have not seen this error, nor have I heard anyone else report it. Perhaps
the others in the group can comment on their own experience. However, there
is something you are definitely doing wrong in the Enterprise Global. When
you have the Enterprise Global file open, you should NOT apply any
non-enterprise Views, Tables, Filters, or Groups. For example, you stated
that you displayed the Calendar view. The Calendar view is a local View
that is found on each user's PC. When you apply that View, were you aware
that the system COPIES that View into the Enterprise Global file? By doing
this, you are accidentally adding non-enterprise Views to the Enterprise
Global, and ultimately, you are polluting it.

My question for you is whether you actually have any true enterprise Views,
Tables, Filters, or Groups in your Enterprise Global? The system includes
only one enterprise View, which is the Enterprise Gantt Chart, and only one
enterprise Table, which is the Enterprise Entry table. Beyond this, you
should have ONLY enterprise Views, Tables, Filters, and Group. You SHOULD
not include local Views, such as the Gantt Chart, the Resource Sheet, etc.

So, you might let us know if you have any true enterprise Views or Tables in
your Enterprise Global. And let's hope others will share their experience
with you on this issue.

Jennifer:

See my blog post. This is an issue with SP2 for the Project client. Do not
open and save your Enterprise Global until you either rollback your client
SP level by uninstalling an reinstalling or until Microsoft releases a patch
for this.

Dale,
Thank you for the thorough response. I had no idea that I was polluting the
EGlobal by creating new Views, Tables, Filters, Groups in it. I was under the
impression that when I created, for example, a new View in the EGlobal that I
was creating an Enterprise View.

So, to answer your question: no, I don't have any true Enterprise Views or
Tables on the EGlobal aside from the Enterprise Gantt View and Enterprise
Entry Table.

To clarify and follow best practices, in the future I will create my Views,
Tables, Filters and Groups on a local project, then use the Organizer to copy
them to the EGlobal.

Thanks again!
Jennifer
