Views Notification Service (Another thread)

Hi All,

My 'Views Notification Service' keeps dying. I get a nice
error message reported when it crashes but I have no idea
how to rectify it.

The VNS runs quite happily until something gets dropped
into the Viewdrop folder. I can reproduce this again and
again by copying an XML file into the folder; as soon as I
do this the service crashes.

All I can figure is that the VNS service polls the
Viewdrop folder every so often, finds something dropped
of, picks up the file, processes the file, and encounters
some sort of problem while processing it. However what
that problem is I just don't know.

The error log is :

Faulting application VWNOTIFY.EXE, version 10.0.2002.502,
faulting module msado15.dll, version 2.80.1022.0, fault
address 0x00002c61

I also get an accompanying DRWatson information log that
reads pretty much the same :

The application, C:\Program Files\Microsoft Project
Server\Bin\VWNOTIFY.EXE, generated an application error
The error occurred on 02/10/2004 @ 12:07:48.093 The
exception generated was c0000005 at address 01B02C61
(msado15)

If anyone has any suggestions as to what is causing this
crash I'd be very grateful.

Thanks,

Jen

Hey Jen,

I personally have never encountered this behavior before, so this is new for
me. Maybe one of the MVP's has encountered it. But anyway, this crash
report doesn't look to good at all.

Have you ever stopped and restarted the Views Notification Service, may it
just needs a good restart.

Probably wouldn't hurt to attempt a detect and repair on Project Server. Just
a suggestion.

Maybe if you have a contract with Microsoft Support, you can call in and get
some Support Professionals to look at the problem. It looks like you might
need to bring them in for assistance if nobody else has encountered this.

You can download the Edit Site Utility for Project Server and how the
VWNOTIFY services handles against a new site.

Those are some suggestions for you.

Good luck,
