"Views" toolbar lost

The little toolbar that used to be in the lower left corner of each
page that allows you to chage the view ("Normal" , "Outline", etc) has
gone on all my windows. I cannot find it in the View>Toolbars menu nor
in the Customize list of toolbars.

Any idea how i can get it back?

Many thinks!

Go to Word>Preferences, View section. Under the label which reads Window,
tick the Status bar checkbox.

Michel,

Thanks for the tip. It helped, but not quite all the way.

First (excuse me for not listing earlier) I have Office X.

It is not the "Status Bar" checkbox (which I already tried) but (oddly
enough) the "Horizotal Scrollbar" checkbox to which my little item is
attached! Not exactly logical - but all's well that ends well!

In any case you DID point me in the right direction.

Gracias!

Hi,

how peculiar. I just did some experimenting, and it looks like you need both
the status bar *and* the horizontal scrollbar for the view buttons to
appear. Hmm... Anyway, glad I could help.

.... Especially since the PC versions only requires the H. scroll bar - The
view buttons don't need the Status Bar active. Unexpected behavior? In Word?
Go figure!!!:)

Nah! can't be! MS doesn't have unexpected behavior. Its all a plot to
aggravate Mac users so they will throw up their hands and switch over to
the PC version, which is supposed to be perfect! ;-)

If it's "fixed", don't "break it"!

Actually it's more 'logical' than it seems - it's just incorrectly
implemented (Can you believe it>).

On the PC the Status Bar is a part of the application window, whereas the
View buttons & the H. scrollbar are a part of the same screen element as a
part of the doc window.

Since Mac OS doesn't present an application 'window' the three components
are made a part of the doc window. Unfortunately MS saw fit to make the
Status Bar independent of the other two components as far as the checkboxes
go, but as Michel points out you must use both the H. scrollbar *&* the
Status Bar to have the View buttons displayed - although you *can* have
either the scrollbar *or* the Status Bar as long as you're willing to
sacrifice the View buttons.

What makes it even more deceptive is that the 'Description of preference' at
the bottom of the View preferences page clearly states that the View buttons
are a part of the H. scrollbar - it even specifies them individually by
name... Bug?
