Virtual Machine-Image Copy

M

Mark Byington

In order to test upgrades and other changes, my server group is building
Virtual Servers for EPM and can then do an 'image copy' to the VM to give me
basically a mirror image to do my testing. The problem comes with the
Production server name being embedded serveral places when EPM was originally
installed.

To avoid stepping all over ourselves, we need to change the production
server name to the Virtual Machine name. Does anyone know where to make
these name changes? Has anyone done this? Looking for mucho guidance here.

Thanks,

A complete reinstall is one option and the site admin tool may be able to do
what you are wanting as well. Personally I recommend the reinstall.

Hi Mark,

If you are using Virtual PC or Virtual Server you can change the network
adapter settings to point to "Internal Network" instead of "External
Network <Adapter Card Name>"

Here's how you do it for Microsoft Virtual Server:
http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsServer/en/library/22af6b7c-d08c-
472f-ae50-165689d175001033.mspx

Here's where you can download the Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 Technical
Overview:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/evaluation/techoverview.mspx

It's a lot easier to isolate your EPM deployment production environment
from your virtual environment by using "Internal Network" adapter
settings. This way you do not need to rename anything.

Good Luck!
