The steps are pretty much the same as installing on a real computer but
with a few twists. First you'll need to configure Microsoft Virtual PC
Configuring Microsoft Virtual PC
--------------------------------
1. From the Virtual PC Console window, click File --> Options.
2. From the Virtual PC Options window, click Performance and select the
following settings:
a. CPU Time: All running virtual machines get equal CPU time
b. When Virtual PC is running in the background: Run Virtual PC at
maximum speed.
Next, you'll need to create a virtual machine
Creating a Virtual Machine
--------------------------
1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Microsoft Virtual PC.
2. From the Virtual PC Console window, click File --> New Virtual
Machine Wizard.
3. On the Welcome to the New Virtual Machine Wizard page, click Next.
4. In the PC Setup Wizard - Virtual PC click Next.
5. On the Options page, select Create a virtual machine and click Next.
6. On the Virtual Machine Name and Location page, type the name of the
machine and click Next.
7. On the Operating System page, select Windows Server 2003 and click
Next.
8. On the Memory page, select Adjusting the RAM and type the amount of
RAM in the text box, and click Next.
9. On the Virtual Hard Disk Options page, select A new virtual hard
disk, and click Next.
10. On On the Virtual Hard Disk Location page, accept the default path,
and click Next.
11. On the Completing the New Virtual Machine Wizard page, click Finish.
You now have a Virtual Machine but with no operating system installed
yet.
Next, you'll need to install Windows Server 2003
Installing Windows Server 2003
------------------------------
1. Insert the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 CD into the CD-ROM drive,
2. From the Virtual PC Console window click on the name of your new
virtual machine and click Start.
3. When the Press any key to boot from CD message appears, press the
SPACEBAR.
4. On the Welcome to Setup page, press ENTER to continue.
5. On the Windows Licensing Agreement page, press F8 to agree.
6. On the Windows Server 2003 Setup page, partition the disks as
follows:
a. C:\ 10 GB
7. Select C: and then press ENTER to install the operating system.
8. Select Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick) and
press ENTER to continue.
9. On the Regional and Language Options page, click Next.
10. On the Personalize Your Software page, type the following, and click
Next.
a. Name: <Your Name>
b. Organization: <Your Company Name>
11. On the Your Product Key page, type your product key, and click Next.
12. On the Licensing Modes page, select the appropriate licensing option
and click Next.
13. On the Computer Name and Administrator Password page, type the
following, and click Next.
a. Computer name: <ComputerName>
b. Administrator password: <password>
c. Confirm password: <password>
14. On the Date and Time Settings page, select your time zone, and click
Next.
15. On the Networking Settings page, select Custom settings, and then
click Next.
16. On the Networking Components page, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),
and then click Properties.
17. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, select Use
the following IP address, type the following, and then click OK.
a. IP Address: 192.168.1.200
b. Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
18. On the Networking Components page, click Next.
19. On the Workgroup or Computer Domain page, click Next.
The Virtual Machine is complete and requires a reboot.
Then follow the Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 Installation Guide
for the remaining steps to install and configure Project Server. Use the
Single Computer Installation Roadmap for this VPC configuration.
