Virus/Attachment question

Just put out an ad, and got some resumes in form of a word attachments.
Opened few up and later saw strange box asking me something about visual
basic. I dismissed it and everything seems ok.

But got to thinking, did someone try slip a virus my way?

What are the protections for this?

And why doesn't Norton come up when I open a word attachment? Norton comes
up all time for other stuff I open. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have macro virus protection enabled (Preferences/General,
check the Macro virus protection checkbox), and you don't enable
macros when given the option, then you should be safe, though if the
files do contain macros, you could pass a macro virus on to others.

Probably not, but you may want to check by opening the VBE and
looking at the ThisWorkbook and Worksheet code modules, especially.

Enabling macro protection, not running macros from people you don't
trust implicitly, and regularly scanning both your email attachments
and your HD.

Good Question. I use MacAfee's Virex 7.1. It always alerts me when there's a
macro virus in a Word document, and give me the option of killing and
deleting the virus.
