Virus scan

I am currently running Office 2003. When I open Word or Excel, the program
tries to run a virus scan. The Windows Installer tells me to insert the
Norton Antivirus 2006 disk and click OK. I used to have Norton AV installed
on my computer but after numerous problems, I uninstalled the program and now
use Zone Alarm. I have deleted the Norton AV files that were left in the
Program folder even after install (as suggested in another post). However, I
still get the message when I open Word or Excel. Any other ideas?!! Thanks in
advance for your help!

It's not an Office issue - it's a Norton issue. Norton can be a bugger to
completely remove. It seems to me there's something available on the web to
completely delete it. And if my failing memory still serves me right, I
think I've heard that Norton offers a removal tool. Search their site.

Strange as it may seem, uninstalling Norton Antivirus doesn't
always uninstall the Norton Office Plugin, which is what causes
the virus scanning message. Use Windows Explorer or My Computer
to search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on the hard drive (be sure to
include system and hidden files/folders in the search options).
If you find it, note the folder where it is located, and use the
"regsvr32 /u" method described in
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office
programs with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" to unregister
the DLL.
