VIRUS WARNING

J

Jim Gordon

Microsoft does NOT put any virus update programs into newsgroups.

Every single newsgroup message purporting to be a virus update from
Microsoft is a fraud.

Do not download or attempt to install any program that was posted to any
newsgroup. Do not download or attempt to open any documents (such as Word,
Excel, PowerPoint) that are posted to newsgroups. You can assume that all
such programs and documents may contain viruses.

Do not follow hyperlinks that have the word "link" in them. Although they
look like legitimate links, they actually hijack your web browser to a
fraudulent web site that looks like a real web site from a major company.
The site will attempt to install viruses onto your computer.

The safe places to get accurate virus information for your computer is from
well known companies.

To obtain large list of Anti-Virus products from legitimate companies search
the word "virus" at Apple's web site:
http://guide.apple.com/

They are being sent as emails as well yesterday I deleted 600 emails
with four variation in themes from my mail box. Plus equivenlent
returned mail messages bounced mail messages and so on.
Today I dumped another 200. Since I use Mac Lucklly they are not
affecting me plus my ISP is using a service called Interscan that
identifies and kills any Viri, worms, and trogan Horses befor the get to
the mail box. So the messages come in but the attachements that have the
bad critters are yanked before I receive them. BUT I still have to deal
with the emails.
