Virus wrecked my MS Word 10.0 - how can I fix it?

A virus infected Word document made it past my freshly-updated Norton
Antivirus.

My version of MS Word 10.0 is from my MS Works Suite 2003.

When I start up MS Word, it goes directly into Install mode, then starts up
the program.

I have run my Norton anti-virus again with no virus detected, but I fear the
virus is still there.

I tried to uninstall MS Word using my original disks and Control Panel, but
the virus won't let me uninstall and reinstall MS Word.

So I'm stuck.

Any ideas of how I can resolve this situation?

If you do have a virus, find out how to eliminate the virus from your
system.

I don't know how a virus could stop the uninstall.

If you have a recent pre-virus backup, you can restore your system to the
state of that backup.

At worst, you will need to wipe out your hard drive and re-install
everything, but before doing that, call MSFT and/or Symantec tech support.
