Virus?

Everytime I run Outlook and do a send/receive, it reports:

"sending message 1 of 1"

This happens when there are NO messages in the outbox!

Additionally, I have been receiving "virus detected"
messages from people I don't know and who are NOT in my
Outlook contact list.

Does anyone know what's going on? I hasve uninstalled
Outlook and installed a new copy...still happens.

I find it annoying and troubling either way, but I fear a
virus.
