Visio 12 and Visual Studio 2003

Is it possible to create a COM Add-in for Visio 12 with VS Studio 2003 and .NET 1.1? Or do I absolutely have to use VS Studio 2005 and .NET 2.0? Any insights greatly appreciated.

if you check the versioning of the visio activex controls in visio12 you will notice that they are 1.1 versions.
