Visio 2000 and gif files

Dan S.

Visio 2002 does not appear to be as good as Visio 2000 for importing graphics (.gif) files. My group has PCs with Visio 2000 installed and others with Visio 2002. With Visio 2000, we can import gif files and produce very high quality results on our HP 8000 printer. When we use Visio 2002 to import these very same gif files (located on a network drive), the output from our HP printer is fuzzy. Looking closely with a magnifying glass, it’s easy to see that the print from Visio 2002 has wavy lines and misplaced dots. All our PCs have the same printer driver installed and produce identical printing results for all other Office applications, including standard shapes created with Visio. It’s only graphics files that appear to be trouble for Visio 2002.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

It is not only importing GIF (or other formats) - it is also producing those
formats by "Save As..." that Visio 2002 is very inferior.

I have thrown Visio 2002 away (wasted money) and reverted to Visio 2000 and
even pre-MS Visio 4.1 for certain functions.

In Redmond, nobody hears you screaming, because nobody listens.

(Why is this font so large???)

What could possibly motivate Microsoft to reduce functionality in newer versions of Visio?

What motivates MS to do anything? After all, they dreamed up that
infuriating paper clip lunacy and the FindFast idiocy. Then there was
DOSSHELL. Then there was ...... bugger it. Life is too short.

All I know is that Visio 2002 performs poorly in some ways; GIF files are
better when drawn in pre-MS Visio 4.1; pasted into PSP5 and saved as GIF
there.
