Visio 2000 - buffer overrun error

C

charlie

I use V2k to open cad dwgs. and mark them up. I have
recently noticed this error when trying to open a dwg
saved as a vsd. MS has a fix for this problem that they
attribute to the size of the dwg being over 2mb but the
fix is only for Visio 2002. Does anyone know if this
patch will work with V2k?

Hello Charlie,

Open the file in Visio 2003 and follow the steps below. If do not have
Visio 2003 download the trile version.

RESOLUTION:
===========
There is no resolution for this issue. Even Visio 2003 opens this document
with errors.

WORKAROUND:
==============
1) Open the drawing in Visio 2003. It will open up with an error message
“Cannot open file. The file may not be a DWG or DXF file, it may not be in
a supported version of DWG file Format, or it may be corrupted. Check the
file and try again”. Hitting on "OK" to close the error message will prompt
for the error again. The error will stop prompting after hitting "OK" two /
three times on the error dialog.

Please Note: At this point of time do not move the scroll bars as it will
prompt for the error again.

2) Go up to the zoom window and zoom out to a 10% (or less depending on the
drawing size). Make sure that the entire drawing can be viewed. Click on
the drawing once," it would prompt for the error again”, Hit "OK" until you
can see an outer frame encompassing the "AutoCAD" drawing.
3) Delete that, it should not delete the objects in the drawing.
4) Save the drawing as a Visio 2002/2003 drawing.
5) The drawing should then open in either versions of Visio, without any
error.

MORE INFORMATION:

2)Also occurs in Visio 2003 Error Message " Cannot open file. The file may
not be a DWG or DXF file, it may not be in a supported version of DWG file
Format, or it may be corrupted. Check the file and try again"
