Visio 2002 extremely slow to open

Visio 2002 SR-1 is excruciatingly slow to start. The
message "Please wait while Visio updates its directory
cache" is displayed, followed by a two to three minute
wait (!) until it starts. This happens whether I'm
opening the Visio program, opening a Visio file, or
opening a Visio object embedded within a Word or
PowerPoint document. It also makes no difference how many
times I've already opened Visio.

You might try deleting content.dat from the Visio folder.
It's usually at C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Visio

Hi Andy -

Thanks for the suggestion. There wasn't a file
named "content.dat" in the suggested folder (or anywhere
else) so I still have my slow start-up problem. The only
file in App Data\Microsoft\Visio was "ShapeGallery.mdb."

By the way, I've applied KB article 318328. Next, I'll
try 810625 - it describes a conflict with Norton
AntiVirus 2002. I have NAV 2003, but it might be worth a
try.
