Visio 2002 Shapes

Neil Bov

Hello,
I am drawing a network diagram and want to use the 'Peer-to-peer' Logical Symbol shape, but rename the Peer to peer to another name.
I have tried renaming it within the Product Description (right click on the shape and then redefine in the Product Description field), of the Network Shape Properties
I have also tried changing the name under the Format, Special field but with no luck!

What I am actually after is a shape such as an oval lined shape that has a broken line.

Any suggestions?

Many Thanks,
Bov

That's kind of an odd shape. There's a way to change the text, but it
involves a few steps:

1. First, ungroup the shape. Select it and choose Shape > Grouping >
Ungroup.
2. Select just the diamond and open the ShapeSheet (Window > Show
ShapeSheet).
3. Scroll down to the Protection section of the ShapeSheet.
4. Next to "LockTextEdit" type 0 and hit Enter. Close the ShapeSheet.

You'll now be able to rename "Peer-to-Peer" to whatever you want.

Hi,

It sounds like you would like to change the name in the text field of the
master for all of
the shape instances that you're using in your network diagram. You can do
this in Visio 2002 by editing the master properties in the document
stencil - File > Stencils > Document Stencil. Right click on the
Peer-to-Peer master in the document stencil, and choose Edit Master from the
menu.

The Peer-to-Peer master in the Logical Symbols stencil in Visio 2002 has the
shape text protected against text edits, so you will need to open the
shapesheet for the master, and change "LockTextEdit" cell in the Protection
section from "1" to "0". You should then be able to select and edit the
shape text in the Master. This should then update the shape text for all
instances of the master in your diagram, and you can drag/drop additional
instances from the updated master on the document stencil.

Note: To work with the shapesheet in Visio, select Tools > Options >
Advanced Tab > and check ON the "Run in Developer Mode" checkbox. I hope
this helps.

Sure, but I thought ungroup was fine for what he was trying to do. You're
right. Opening the group and unlocking textedit on it is the better way to
go to maintain the integrity of the shape.

I've seen too many people burned by ungrouping that I tend to be very
cautious around it.

I'd like to have ungroup changed so it checks first if the action is
reversible and if not warn the user.
