Visio 2003: Import data from Excel?

S

Stefan Lasiewski

I am creating a network diagram.

I have an Excel 2003 spreadsheet which contains the hostnames, serial
numbers & other information for many machines. Is it possible to link
these fields to the shapes in a Visio diagram?

I've done this using the online demo of Excel 2007. Is this possible
to do in Excel 2003?

I can't find any information about this in the help file. Can anyone
point me to a tutorial?

Thank you,

I am using Visio 2003 standard. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

It looks like this ability was added back to Visio 2007. Is this
feature just in Visio 2007 professional, or does it exist in Visio
2007 standard edition?

I vaguely remember that years ago, I was able to import a CSV (or
spreadsheet) into Visio 2000 or Visio 2002. I also remember surveying
a lan using SNMP, and using that data to populate a network diagram.
It's been a while, so maybe I don't remember correctly.

However, it looks like some of these abilities were removed from Visio
2003:

Thanks for your help!

Microsoft Office Visio 2007 diagrams turn complicated ideas, text, and tables into easy-to-understand visuals that communicate information at a glance. Real-time data Embed together and programs in Visio from a word doc will translate into visual Aero Glass effects, themes, and transparencies.
