Visio 2003 incompatible with 2002 drawings?

Patrick

I haven't figured out the common thread yet, but with a vast majority of some
old drawings (unknown version, but definitely not older than 5 nor newer than
2002), my 2003 hangs while attempting to open. The processor pegs to 100%
and sits there. I've tried setting all security settings to low (these are
from trusted source), disabling vb and all related extras, and all to no
avail.

Today, I enlisted the help of a peer who is using 2002. He also was unable
to open some of these drawings, however, he was able to open more than I.
With some of the drawings that he could open that I couldn't, he tried saving
them in multiple formats: 2002, 5, and xml. XML finally worked, but there
are two problems with that: 1) manually converting all of our drawings to XML
would be tedious to say the least, 2) they're HUGE (original file size was
635KB, XML filesize was 3034KB - I've seen this reported elsewhere).

I'm at my wits end, and I *have* to be able to edit these drawings, and
soon. Is my only choice to back-rev to 2002?
