Visio 2003 Professional Shapes with Standard version

Can the Shape files that are provided with Visio 2003
Professional be referenced by the Standard version?

We are going to buy several visio copies but only need the
EE shapes from the Professional version so we are thinking
of buying one version of the Professional and the rest
Standard. We only use visio to do simple block diagrams
and logic drawings for documentation so the Standard
version is more than adequate.

Both editions of Visio use the same file format, so once a drawing is
created it can be edited in either version.

Hi Mike,

Once you create a drawing, it can be opened and edited in either the
Standard or Professional version. So you can share and edit drawings
between the versions. I believe that to stay within the product's license
restrictions, you will need to keep the EE shapes within the Pro product
(where you can create drawings to share with other users). This is why the
Search for Shapes feature in Visio 2003 will return web search results
shapes which based on whether you are using the Standard or Professional
product.

Be sure to consult the product license information for the actual details
and restrictions.

If you are only using simple block diagrams and some logic, the block
diagrams is part of Visio standard and you may be able to find a free third
part logic shape on the net. If not, they are easy to create.

So you can buy just Visio standard and not worry about licensing issues
since you will not be using shapes from Visio Professional.
