Visio 2003-Shapes disappear when clicked

I am using MS Visio Pro 2003 SP2. Currently I have an existing .vsd file
residing on a SharePoint site, and when I open it to edit, any shape I click
on disappears. Pressing undo brings the shape back for a fraction of a
second, then it disappears again.

I can't find anything like a description of this behaviour via Google or on
this newsgroup, so I'd certainly appreciate any suggestions.
