Visio 2003 - Tell us how to turn off shape layout bumping!!

T

tuesday

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to turn off that silly shape
layout routine. I spent all this time neatly organizing my layout - and then
pasted a shape on top of grouped items and now my layout is all messed up. I
have to UNGROUP them, re-layout that area, then regroup.

Surely there is a way to turn it off - but the HELP does not tell me
anything about it.

Well, you can do it a little bit...

Anti-intuitively, you set some behavior for the shape you are putting on top
of the group.

- Goto Format > Behavior > Placement
- In the top drop-down, select: "Do not layout or rout around"

The shape won't mess up your group. It is essentially dead as far as
connectors are concerned. That also means you can't connect anything to it,
unless you specifically add connection points to it. And then the connectors
won't route nicely to the shape.

This setting is meant for shapes that really have nothing to do with the
"connectedness" of a drawing. If this is your case, then you are in luck.

There might be a better way, but that's all I can think of right now. Sorry
it's neither clean or elegant.

Hope this helps,
