visio 2007 theme

I'm trying to setup a theme that I will save to a template to
standardize diagrams.

I would like the text on the connector (arrow) to be one color and the
text in the shapes to be another color by default.

I'm new to themes, but so far, I only see a way to set all text color
and font and not differentiate between the two.

Is there a way to do this?

There is only one text color and font for the theme that would apply to all
shapes. However, you can customize the Dynamic Connector master for your
template to make all your connectors have the formatting you want. Set your
theme up for the text formatting you want in regular shapes. Then go to
File > Shapes > Show Document Stencil and edit the Dynamic Connector master.
(Draw a connector on the page first if you don't see it.) When you edit the
master you can pick the formatting you want for connectors.

I was able to create a new stencil and make copies of the master and modify
them to do what I wanted them to do.

Related to that..
I would rather not have a permanent color scheme in case we decide to change
our defaults in the future. I was playing with the themes and discovered
that you can modify the shapesheet to use an accent color instead. The hope
is that I can apply whichever theme I want and the same ideas will apply when
using, say, a Gantt chart.

When I set the accent I want to use, it changes. When I apply the theme, it
changes back to the default theme settings.

I then tried adding themeguard to the string, and now the fill remains the
default theme color but shows the fill color as the accent I set in the
shapesheet when I try to manually change it.

I'm not sure why this is happening.

Is there a way to change the master attributes to an accent color instead of
a color I specify to achieve the same thing?

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. Try applying an accent color to
a rectangle and then look at the Shapesheet formula. It will be something
like THEMEGUARD(THEME("AccentColor1")). You can put that formula into a
master to have it take on the Accent 1 color of the current theme.

I'll try that.

When I set the themeguard on and specify an accent color, it does not change
to that color. When I look in the fill properties of the object, it shows
the accent color has been applied.

I would check to make sure you are looking at the correct shape (especially
if you have a group) and that the geometry is closed and filled.

if I take the "themeguard" off of the stylesheet property for the fill, I am
able to change the color manually to the accent color. is there a way I can
send you a screen shot so you understand what I'm asking?
