This may sound very stupid but what is the difference between visio 2007
basic and visio 2007 professional?

Hi Tom,

Excellent question. I don't believe Microsoft has announced all the details
yet. Here is the currently published information. Hopefully we can provide
more specifics soon.

Microsoft Office Visio® Standard 2007
Office Visio Standard 2007 will make it easy for business professionals
to visualize and communicate complex information, processes and ideas with
professional-looking diagrams. By using Office Visio 2007, people will be
able to easily create diagrams to visualize complex information, present
them professionally and share them broadly for effective and efficient
decision-making.

Microsoft Office Visio Professional 2007
Office Visio Professional 2007 will make it easy for IT and business
professionals to visualize, analyze and communicate complex information,
systems and processes with clear, compelling diagrams. By using Office Visio
2007, people will be able to easily visualize information from multiple data
sources to better understand the current state of systems and processes,
analyze information visually to highlight key trends and exceptions, and
share diagrams broadly for effective and efficient decision-making.
