VISIO 3.0a

I'm one of a few people still using visio 3.0 with Windows XP. And.. this
program runs smoothly, but I'm tired of the old 8 character file names that
this old version uses. 1) will a new version recognize and load my old files,
and 2) what's the best new version of Visio for me to buy? Most all my
drawings are either architectural or mechanical.

John, is this so? Previous experience has been that Visio 2000 was required
to open pre Visio 5 files.

I have also been using visio 3.0, I made field maps, but I got a new computer
running XP, and I cannot find my disk. I have been told that Visio 5.0 gives
a message that it will not work with XP, I also downloaded the Microsoft
viewer to print my maps for this year, but it will not open the particular
..VSD file. As my questions and needs are similiar, I was hoping you could
update me with any new information you discovered.
For a program I have been considering the Technical 5.0 from E-bay.

Each version of the Visio product opens files created in all previous
versions. However, the Visio Viewer can only display files saved in Visio
5.0 or later.

All versions of Visio will run on Windows XP. Any version that was released
prior to Windows XP triggers a compatibility warning message. This can
safely be ignored. It was a stupid attempt by Microsoft to convince people
to upgrade to newer versions of software.
