Visio file curruption

while opening a visio file from Visual Source Safe i am
facing a problem that the file gets corrupt.It gives an
error message "An error(100) occurred during action Open
File.Visio cannot open file because its not visio file."
when trying to open the file. What causes the file to
corrupt? can the corrupt file be retrieved ?
Also while trying to get the previous version of the file
from VSS i came to know that the previous versions of the
file are missing in VSS also. Is it a VSS problem?
