Visio floorplan in Word

Hi.

I currently have a very large floor plan in Visio 2003 Professional. I'm
trying to assemble a book that shows each elevation of the building on one
side, and on the right side show a zoomed in view of the area and a
description. I do not want hundreds of separate drawings, nor do I want to
copy/paste and make an image. I want everything based off a single large file
so that any changes to the floor plan will be shown in the zoomed in view.
I'm using word 2007 and have been primarily experimenting with inserting
linked objects.

Thank you for any advice.

Sounds like a great feature request for a future version of Word. (OLE to a
single object using different view portals so that the target (word
document) doesn't become so bloated as to be unusable).

So there is no way I can 'focus' the OLE? :-(

I was concerned about your desire to 'link' to the drawing versus embed. I
just attempted to work with Word/Visio 2010 and where word would allow a
selection from the drawing to be pasted, it would not allow me to link to
the selection (that may be an anti-virus thing on my system). I'm also
unsure as to whether OLE captures the pan/zoom settings of the linked
object, or you're stuck with the entire object (that was the reason for the
comment about Word tracking the the view portal of the linked object).
Since you're linking to an object (rather than embedding an image), this
puts a requirement of the owning application (visio in this case) having to
be installed on those systems that want to interact with it.
just some thoughts from the side,

The only time someone will interact with the document is when updating the
drawings. If the drawings are not updated, then there is virtually no need to
update the word doc. Ifs to be printed out and kept as a pre-incident book.
It'll be under stringent document control, but if any changes are made to the
building, about 200 pages of plans have to be modified. I'm trying to figure
out the best method for doing this.

Thanks for the input.
