Visio formatting won't translate to Word or Ppt

I created a flowchart in Visio 2003, did a "select all" and "copy", then
tried to paste into Word 2000 and then PowerPoint 2000. Results were less
than stellar. Funky spacing appeared between words where spaces shouldn't
exist, my bullets turned into the strangest looking symbols, and I'm at a
loss. No weird fonts used or anything (just Times New Roman), so I don't know
where to start to fix it. I need to share my document with other people who
don't have Visio, so I need a reliable way to share flowcharts with them.
Anybody know a work-around?
Thanks in advance,
-Larissa

Larissa,

Try pasting it as a metafile (ie: dumb graphics, not embedded Visio object).

In PowerPoint, there should be something like: Edit > Paste Special. From
the list, choose Picture or Windows Metafile or Enhanced Metafile.

Maybe this will give you better results.

This sort thing happens to me occassionally. It appears to be related to
whether have lots of applications open or not (almost like..."gee, not enough
memory, lets make tough choices"...kind of thing).

I typically have to close the app (word/ppt) as well as other apps, reopen
word/ppt and try again.

It works, but the appearance of saving the Visio as a .jpg and pasting that
image in is a little more asthetically pleasing, if more time consuming. I
like the tip, though, so that's probably what I'll do if I have a lot of
cutting and pasting. It's really too bad that it turns out this way, because
if any changes need to be made they usually have to print a hard copy, write
in their changes and send me that. Oh, well. Maybe someday the entire company
will upgrade . . . :)
Thanks for your response.

It's funny, because I tried your suggestion and when I pasted this time the
bullets showed up as something completely different (I didn't even know we
had flag bullets as an option!), though I think the spacing issues are
improved. Well, it was a good idea and worth a shot. Maybe when I get more
virtual memory for my computer things will improve.
Thanks for the advice.

Of all the graphics images jpegs are probably the worst format for
saving Visio files. Jpegs are great for photographic images. Try gif,
png, wmf, or emf instead.

Good to know. Thanks for the info.
