Visio hangs when database changes are applied

I have a visio digram with a large number of database tables that I have
reverse engineered from an Oracle Database. I have created a number of
diagrams on separate pages. Whenever i try to refresh the digram from the
database I am presented with the Wizrd indicating the new, updated and
deleted tables, view etc.

After I have selected the updates to be applied Visio (2003 SP2) hangs. I
have tried installing a trail version of Visio 2007 and it crashes instead of
hanging. I feel like I have wasted considerable effort in creating the
diagrams in the first place.
