Visio Prof 2007 for mechanical dimensional drawings

Lee

I just purchased MS Visio Professional 2007. I am having problems getting
started in trying to do mechanical dimensional drawings: more like CAD based
drawings. Most of the examples are for general office graphs and charts.
The closest things I have found for an example, for what I am trying to do,
are office floor plans; this is not enough detail. Can someone give me some
good pointers for starting a “mechanical dimensional drawing

Here are some advices :

- Use "File=>Page setup=>Drawing scale" to scale your drawing.
- Use a fixed grid "Tools=>Ruler & grid=>Grid=>Fixed". You can also
change Grid origin.
- Use Rulers you can also change Ruler zero "Tools=>Ruler &
grid=>Ruler".
- Use Guides and Guide point "View=>Guides" (see help to create one).
- Use Snapping dynamic guides "Tools=>Snap & glue=>Dynamic grid" and
"Tools=>Snap & glue=>advanced"
- Use the size & position window "View=>Size & position window" to
set exact width, height ... . Don't forget you can type simple formula in it
(3+4) will give 7.
- Use dimension stencil "File=>Shapes=>Visio Extras=>Dimensioning"
- Use Visio extra add-on "Tools=>Add-ons=>Visio Extras=>Move Shape",
"Tools=>Add-ons=>Visio Extras=>Shape area and Perimeter",
- Use shape operations "Shape=>Operations". Don't forget "Offset" and
"Fit curve" operations.

In the end i have made a specialized toolbar that can be useful for
mechanical drawing (MecaGraphics). If you are interested in it, Please
contact me on my personnal mail.

Enjoy with Visio
