Visio should have a Pixels-based Drawing Scale.

Visio allows you to set a base measurement unit for a drawing (File > Page
Setup > Page Properties > Measurement Units). With all of the user interface
stencils/templates available, it would be great if you could know the
dimensions of a shape in pixels.

Since many video cards and monitors default to 96dpi for Windows, you could
go with the approximation that 1 pixel = 0.01 inches. Just be aware that
not all displays use this setting.

Hi,
It is stil not clear to me whether or not Visio will ever have PIXELS as a
display unit for drawing like Adobe does. I understand that this is a
challenging thing to figure out how to do, but it would at least be nice to
hear an aknowledgement from you that this is an issue for Visio and that
there is user demand for this. Adobe has has provided "pixels" as a unit for
quite some time now.
Pretty please?

Thanks.

Pixel measurements would be challenging for a vector-based drawing tool like
Visio, but that doesn't mean it would be impossible to do. However, we have
not heard this request from users very often, so such a feature is not on
our radar right now. The only scenario I've heard requests for is software
user interface prototyping.

If you have a scenario that you can provide here, I would like to get more
information on it.

Hello,

I've run into this same problem doing software user interface protoyping for
an LCD graphical display and would like to be able to use pixels in Visio.
Since by definition software user prototyping is pixel-based, not having
pixels in Visio is definitely a drawback.

Using the 0.01 in = 1 px solution is alright, but it's still a workaround.
As well, how do you find out if your monitor or video card uses 96 dpi?

Thanks

Thanks for the comments. We'd certainly like to hear from people if pixel
measurements are important to them.

I normally check my display settings by right-clicking on the Windows
desktop, then choosing Properties > Settings > Advanced.

Hi Mark, we are also missing the pixels for UI prototyping. That means I also
want to stress the need for such a function in Visio.

Many regards,
Inge

I need pixel units for web and software-based UI design. Graphical
designers speak in pixels and when I have trouble telling them how
large to make a button or how tall to make a toolbar it frustrates both
parties.
