Visio Suggestion about Taskbar

Previous versions of Visio allowed all open visio documents to appear in the
taskbar. This was very useful when multiple visio documents and multiple
non-visio documents were open and a user needed to go between them all
quickly.

I was disappointed and very frustrated to see that this was completely
removed from the new version of visio. I am often actively using 6+ and as
many as 10+ tasks/documents/folders at the same time, and I rely on the
taskbar as the only way of knowing what's open so I can quickly get around. I
should imagine that other people who need to have open so many things at once
experience the same frustration with this.

I think what makes it worse is that Visio used to do this, but the feature
was completely replaced. At least Excel gives the option of reenabling it
with the "windows in taskbar" option.

Wow, I had totally forgotten about this. I thought that only Outlook did
this, but Word and Excel do too.

The only idea I can think of is to start a separate instance of Visio for
each document. Fine if you have lots of memory, but also an extra step. If
you have any developer types around, they might even be able to trap Visio's
Open event and start another Visio for you.

There might also be a registry setting, but I don't know about it. First,
you have to get Visio to "put all settings in the registry", under Tools >
Options. Then you need to open regedit and look for:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Visio.

Oh, I just found something: the registry item: "SingleInstanceFileOpen"
under the key I mentioned above can be set to 0 instead of 1. Now every time
you double-click a .vsd file to open it, you'll get a new instance of Visio.
Pretty much what you wanted!

I figured out a way of doing it with the "Folder Options"
If you email me I can send you the instructions.
The other way works fine, but if you don't have admin rights like at work,
you might not be able to modify the registry. This way almost any kind of
user can make the change.

So email me @ "lixperry at hotmail.com"
