Visio Temp Files

Peter

I had a user complain that they were running out of hard disk space, so I did
a search on their hard drive and we found over 4000 .vsd files in the
following location (C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Temp)
that were taking up about 8 GB of space.

We checked her Visio settings, and she doesn't even have autosave turned on.
Why is Visio creating those files in that location? Sure, we could just
delete them for now, but they'll just come back. Is there some way we can
prevent Visio from "permanently" writing files to the "temp" directory (kind
of ironic, isn't it?).

Thanks!

bizarre, I open a lot of visio stuff (both v11 and v12) on several systems
and have no vsd files in the temp folder.

The Local Settings folder is a hidden folder.

I think I just figured it out.

1. I installed Visio 2003 on a new workstation.
2. Opened a Visio document on our network share. Temp file with .vsd
extension appears in Local Settings\Temp folder.
3. Closed Visio document. Temp file disappears.
4. Installed SP2 for Visio 2003.
5. Opened a Visio document on our network share. Temp file with .vsd
extension appears in Local Settings\Temp folder.
6. Closed Visio document. Temp file DOES NOT disappear.

So much for service packs helping out...
