Visio Viewer red x

I have installed both visio 2003 and 2007 and get the little red x on both
versions
i have tried to install the updates for the version each version i had
installed at the time and when i try to install them they tell me i dont
have the correct program or version installed and doesnt recognize that i
have anything installed and wil not update any ideas would be greatly
apreciated
