Visio WBS chart wizard

Is there any logic to the order in which Project exports the WBS into Visio?
Initially I thought it might have been ordered by WBS code but no, then I
thought it might be to do with start date of tasks but no. I did a little
experiment with a project with only 4 simple tasks and used the wizard 3
times consecutively; on each Visio drawing the tasks were all ordered
differently!

Am I missing something fundamental?

Many thanks.

The Visio chart wizard uses WBS structure and based on the placement of the
task in the WBS draws the corresponding flowchart.
Are you trying to select on some limited numbers of task. If that the case
then you will get different charts at different times.
Take an example of small project with 3 summary task, assign WBS and then
export it to visio.
At level one you will get the name of project.
Level two will give you all the summary task (3 summary task as in our
example)
Level three will give you all the sub task

Hope this helps

Thanks Manmeet. I'd managed to get to that stage. My question was really
about how the wizard orders tasks at the same level i.e. taking your example,

Thanks Manmeet. I'd managed to get that far but my question was really about
the ordering of subtasks at the same level i.e. using your example, if there
are 3 subtasks at level 3, how does the wizard order them in Visio?

For example, if the project WBS is as follows:

1 High level task
1.1 Task A
1.2 Task B
1.3 Task C

When I export it to Visio, I would expect to get (hope my formatting works
here!):
High level task
Task A Task B Task C

But sometimes the order of A, B and C is mixed up.

Any more thoughts?

hi plf100

Please keep in mind the following
1. With Project, you can represent theWBS by using task IDs or by assigning
your own WBS code to each task.
2.Custom outline codes are not changed automatically when you add, move, or
delete tasks.

May be one of the above is the reason.
Hope this helps

PLF100,

I have encountered the same problems. I have tried creating a simple
schedule also. I have also tried to use my own WBS codes. Neither has
worked. I think it is a unnecessary feature. There doesn't seem to be a
logical reason why the same project file would create multiple separate views
of the WBS in visio.
