(I have an issue with the word "obsolete". If it does what you need and it
works, then it's not obsolete.)

If you no longer have the original media, you need to get the full version,
not an upgrade. You may be able to upgrade what's installed on this system
but if you get another computer, you will not have a qualifying product to
upgrade.

It will still work, you can get Visio 4 or 5 Technical for $5 on eBay.

Visio Technical was discontinued and it's content was rolled into Visio
Professional.

The older versions still work, but if you want the same content when you
upgrade, you need to look at Visio Professional.

Another issue is that the last version of Visio that offered Visio
Technical, is too old to qualify for an upgrade and you will need to
purchase a full version. You may be able to find a newer, but not current
version on EBay or some second hand store. That may get you back into the
upgrade territory.

Further, if you get a later Visio Standard, your existing Technical stencils
etc still work quite happily. However, just purchasing the Professional
version is the way to go, as John suggests. You could try the
stepping-stone upgrade via eBay John suggests, or you may qualify for
Academic version?

For example, I paid about $250 Australian for Visio Professional 2007
Academic (I flashed my College Staff ID card). That's exactly what I paid
for my original Visio 4.1 Technical (Academic price) around 1995 or so.

I have the Academic version of Visio 2k3 Professional (no media disc due to
downloaded installation from University however I have the install files on
my HD). Can I upgrade my version to Visio 2k7 Professional? Or do I need to
procure the full version?

Thanks Jeff
