Visio

G

George Schneider

I have visio 2000 professional installed on my computer. I received a
diagram form a vendor, but when i attempt to open the document I get an error
stating that it was created using a newer version of vision and I need to
upgrade to view the document. I thought that if i downloaded visio 2003
viewer i would be able to view the document. When I attempt to open the
documnet after insatlling the viewer it still tries to use visio 2000. If I
uninstall vision 2000 and install just the viewer i can view the diagram. Is
there anyway to be able to have visio 2000 and the viewer insytlled so i can
view recent diagrams i receive from vendors. I stll need to use visio 2000
and its a real pain to uninstall the program in install the viewer to view a
diagram i receive everytime i need to view a newer diagram. Can visio 2000
and the viewer both be installed and if so how because if tvisio 2000 is
installed it appears even thought the install runs i can't find the viewer on
my system.

Dear Partner,

According to your description, my understanding of this issue is: when you
install Visio Viewer 2003, you can not find it in All Programs. When you
double click a VSD file, it opens with Visio 2000 you have installed
before. Thus you can not open VSD file created in Visio 2003 by the usage
of Visio Viewer 2003.

If I have misunderstood your concern, please feel free to let me know.

Based on my research, Visio Viewer is an ActiveX control. All the Viewers
in Office need to be used with IE. You are able to open VSD file in IE.
Thus I suggest you open the VSD file edited in Visio 2003 in IE as follows:
1. Right click the VSD file, select Open With->Choose Program.
2. In the Open With dialog box, select Internet Explorer, Click OK.
3. In the IE, if IE blocks pop up window, Click the yellow bar, select
Allow Blocked Content, now you can see the VSD file in IE.
Note: when you use Visio Viewer, you can only see the file, but can not
edit the file. If you need to edit the file, you need to install Visio 2003.

Please try the suggestion and update me with the result at your earliest
convenience. We look forward to your reply.

Regards,
Alice Zhu
