Viso 2007 - Move Shape

When I place a shape in the visio drawing and try to move the shape around,
it does not stay at the position i intend to place it in but instead seems to
jump around to different places in the drawing space. Any solution to this?
Happens with all kind of shapes.

Have you checked your snap and glue settings? Also note you can nudge a shape
by selecting it and using the arrow keys on the keyboard.

When you say jumps around, does act like it's jumping to the nearest grid or
ruler sub-division or is it really random and jumping by relatively large
amounts?

Is this a new drawing, or are there other shapes on the page? If there are
other shapes, are these shapes connected to each other? You might want to
check routing/shape spacing: menu bar>shape>layout shapes. Click the
spacing button at the bottom of the menu. Look at the entries, they should
all be less than 1/2" typically (not sure what it would be for metric ~
1.27cm?). If there are some really large values, that might impact how the
shapes place.

No it jumps around all over the drawing sheet and in fairly large amounts.

Yes its a new drawing and happens with every symbol i insert and try to move
it to a different place. I havent made any connections. Just placed the
symbols and trying to get it to the right place to make the connections.

Any other answers?

I guess we need clarification on some terms. There are shapes in Visio which
come from our stencils but you can also place other objects into a drawing
such as symbols. When you say symbols are you talking about Visio shapes or
symbols inserted into Visio from another source? In order to get a clear
understanding of your issue and a resolution you may want to open a case with
Microsoft Visio Support.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get anything to behaving close to what
you're seeing. There are a couple of things that occur to me, but, they seem
quite remote and unlikely. 1.) is your video driver up-to-date? You might
try turning hardware acceleration on/off. 2.) I gather that as you are
dragging the shape around, it will move smoothly and follow the cursor.
Then, when you release the shape, it jumps. Just wanted to confirm the
smooth dragging part. 3.) And there's no noticable time lag while dragging
a simple shape. 4.) Windows XP or Vista. I've not used Vista, not heard
any complaints with regards to Visio, but, I don't have any experience there.

Afraid this wasn't much help.
