Viso 5.0 Plus incompatible with WinXP Pro?

D

dwy

I'm installing Visio 5.0 Plus on Windows XP Pro. At the end of the
installation I get a message box, "Visio is incompatible with this version of
Windows. For more information, contact Microsoft. To run the program, click
continue."

So I click continue and restart XP, start running Visio 5.0 Plus with Visio
4.5 generated files and don't see any problems yet. What is the compatibility
issue?

Thanks!

There is no issue. Visio 5.0 just didn't make it on to Microsoft's
known-good-applications list for Windows XP. Thus Windows fires off the
warning.

I have Visio 1 running on my XP machine with no problem (except that it is
faster than it use to be). The "problem" with Visio 5 is that the
installation program that came with Visio 5 (released August 1997) does not
know what Windows XP is and so throws an error. Visio 5 and all the other
earlier version of Visi odo run under Windows XP.

John/Mark, I'just loaded Visio 5.0 into my Win XP Prof machine and it posted
the same error previously mentioned regarding incompatible operating system.
I too, hit continue with a vastly different result. Win XP Pro is not booting
up any more. So I'd like to know what if anytihing is Visio 5.0 doing with
system files that might render Win XP Prof inoperative? I can only wish I had
the same experience both of you have had.

If you could suggest any ways to get Win XP to boot up, even in safe mode so
I can erase Visio 5.0, I would appreciate it.. thanks.. marcel
