viso gantt chart

I'm trying to import an excel file into a visio gantt chart (visio 2000) I
get the following error message
"The data in the MPX file appears to be corrupt. Please try exporting the
data from its original source and then import inot visio 2000 again"

I have tried this several time with different files. I don't think it's a
matter of file corruption.
