Vista and FrontPage

My website has been built using FrontPage. My old computer's power supply
took a dive so I bought a new computer with the Vista OS. My understanding
is FrontPage will not work with Vista. So how do I access my webpage and
make changes without having FrontPage?

I'm going to upload the old HD to this computer (XP) but don't want to open
the FrontPage files in fear of corrupting the Vista OS (already had a bad
experience trying to upload HP printing/scanning software).

What can I do?

With one known problem (that does not affect all users) FrontPage 2002
and FrontPage 2003 (not sure about FP2000) will work perfectly in Vista
when using disc-based webs, or editing on a remote server.
FrontPage may crash when using the Hyperlink dialogue - the workaround
is to make hyperlinks in code view. It is hoped that SP1 for Vista will
provide the solution, but no guarantees.

Many people have reported problems with HP drivers in Vista - and even
more so with all-in-one devices.

FrontPage has been replaced by Expression Web and SharePoint Designer.
Expression Web is aimed at standards compliant web sites, and has
limited support for FrontPage components. SharePoint Designer is aimed
at SharePoint websites, but has more support for FrontPage Components.
Neither program has any support for VML graphics (WordArt, ShapeArt,
TextBoxes and objects created using the Drawing toolbar).

A trial for Expression Web is available from
http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/download.aspx?key=web

IMPORTANT: Do not forget the product key obtainable from a link on that
page.

Both Expression Web and SharePoint Designer will run without problems on
Vista.

What do you mean by code view? Thanks

The view that displays the HTML code.
Normal or Design View displays the page as it would be seen in a browser
(or close to it)
Code View displays the HTML markup
Split View displays both design and code (FP2003)

Choose the view from the tags at the bottom of the main pane (FP2003) or
from the Views pane (FP2000)

I understand what you mean by view the HTML code but I don't understand how
to put the hyperlink in. Also I need to do bookmarks also, Thanks

Try dragging your page from Folder List on to the page
- then select the link created, and switch to code view to edit it
To add a bookmark to a page at the end of the page filename add #bookmarkname

What did you do about loading Frontpage on Vista? I am in same situation as
you -- pc crashed and bought a new one with Vista OS. I downloaded a trial
of Expression Web (supposedly Frontpage's replacement) and did not like it.
I want to purchase FP 2003 and continue on as I have been but am leary about
FP2003 working with Vista.

Frontpage 2003 will work with Vista. I would think FP 2002 will as
well, but I don't know about FP 2000.

Make sure you apply Service Pack 1 for MS Office/Frontpage once you have
installed it.

Frontpage works fine on Vista. I am using 2002. Absolutely no problem.
