Vista and Microsoft office xp 2002

I have just purchased a new laptop from dell. I installed microsoft
office XP professional with front page 2002 and it has been working fine
for two weeks no problems at all. Two days ago the laptop would not boot
up at all I rang dell and they said it was a software problem. They
talked me through wiping the hard drive as it would not boot up in any
mode or restore to last known point. They said this version of microsoft
office is not compatable and therefore could have caused the problem, no
other software was installed at this point. Surely if it worked for two
weeks it cannot be this that caused the problem. Has anyone else used
this version on Vista Home Premium.

It can be used but there may be a few issues, nothing drastic enough to
cause reformatting tho.

I have to ask this - is your copy of Office a genuine copy on a holographed
CD?

I am not sure I bought it from somebody secondhand when I have tried to
do the updates it is telling me it not a valid copy althought I do have
a product key. Could this cause a problem if the updates are not done.

1. Which may not be a valid copy - Vista or Office XP?

2. Just because you have a product key doesn't mean it's valid. Where did
you buy it?

3. If it is not a valid copy, you cannot get updates. Microsoft is doing
what they can to prevent thieves from using their software.

Vista is fine the laptop came loaded with it from PC World. Its the
Office XP Professional with Front Page 2002 which it says its not a
genuine copy but it let me install it fine using the product key which
came with it. Would microsoft have caused the laptop not boot up and
have to wipe the hard drive (Dell talked me through this) just because
of this.
