Vista Business

Just installed Visio 2003 and Windows Update installed Visio SP 2

After I close Visio, Vista displays

"MS Office Visio has Stopped working"
with an option to Close Program

What is the problem/fix for this issue?

Could be an add-in that's not closing. Try this:

Make sure you're closed out of Visio, press and hold down the Ctrl key and
start Visio 2003. Keep holding the Ctrl key down until you get prompted to
start Visio in Safe Mode and click Yes. Then close Visio.

If Visio closes without the error then start Visio in normal mode (without
holding down the Ctrl key) and check the root of Tools > Add-Ons for any
add-ons and under Tools > Macros > COM Add-Ins... Try disabling some of the
add-ins to see if you can isolate it to an add-in.

Thanks Aaron,

I am on vacation the next two weeks (away from my new computer)

I'll let you know if all is well.

If Visio closes without the error ...

Not sure about the original poster, but I'm still getting the error when
Visio 2003 SP3 closes -- in safe mode or not. Have run repairs on all
installed Office 2003 SP3 components with no effect.

Event viewer has the following entry: Faulting application VISIO.EXE,
version 11.0.8161.0, ... faulting module unknown, ... exception code
0xc0000005, ...

Other posts have suggested Bluetooth driver issues, but my laptop does not
have Bluetooth hardware.

Any more troubleshooting ideas?

TIA Brian

Try starting Visio in application safe mode by holding down the Ctrl key
and starting Visio. If you don't get the problem in Visio safe mode there
may be an add-in that's causing the problem.

There was no change in the problem using safe mode. The only thing that
silences the error is to disable COM add-ins (Tools - Options... - Security
tab - uncheck Enable COM add-ins).

What are the COM add-ins that were loading?
