VISTA&OFFICE 2007 - OPENING DOCUMENTS FROM PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF OF

R

richieg

I recently purchased copies of Microsoft Vista and Office 2007. I am having
problems opening documents created by earlier versions of office directly by
clicking on them. I can open them if I open the open the Office program and
then say open this file. If I click open with ... the office 2007 programs
won’t transfer from the program files to the default programs list. I have
tried to uninstall and reinstall Office, to run the fix and repair Office
2007 option, and to remove any other programs that might cause this problem
like MS Works but nothing works. I have searched the forums and tried the
suggestions such as copying the office program but still it doesn't work. I
am wondering if you guys/gals have heard of this problem and have an answer
of how I can fix it? I am using MS office 2007 enterprise edition and windows
vista home edition. Any help or guidance that you could provide would be
greatly appreciated.

We've had reports of the same behavior and I suspect Norton AV is the cause.
If you use Norton AV, go to Norton Options and in the Miscellaneous section,
turn off "Enable Office Plug-in".

If this works for you can you post back and let us know? So far no one has
confirmed this is the cause and if it isn't we need to start looking
elsewhere. Thanks! :)

Please post all follow-up questions to the newsgroup. Requests for
assistance by email can not be acknowledged.
