vista - office keeps asking me to convert to perm license, why

I want to buy a permanant license, I select convert, enter a valid license(i
think, comes up with a tick), it asks me to stop and start an office product,
and then it comes up again, trial expired, convert.
i am trying to pay for office 2007 and student version which came with my
gateway pc.
