vista outlook 2007 issues

I have Vista Business and Office 2007. Outlook receives email fine, but tries
to send email that does not exist. The outbox is empty, but the status bar
shows sending mesage 1 of 3. Then When I actually want to send a real email,
it never sends.
How do I get Outlook to stop trying to send emails that do not exist???
