Vista SP1 and Office 2007

Hi I have the most up to date patched version of Vista with automatic updates
turned on, and I believe I have the latest and greatest version of Office
2007. I use Outlook with a POP3 email provider, I don't connect to an
exchange server.

Prior to SP1 Outlook would freeze once a day with a grayed out screen and
"(not responding)" in the title bar. now it seems to be better, but it still
happens once a week. Other than swithcing operating systems and email
clients, what can I do to prevent what is supposed to be the best Microsoft
has to offer from acting like the worst system they have.

specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 1
AMD Turion 64x2 mobile TL-56 1.8GHz RAM 2GB
Outlook 2007 (12.0.6316.5000) SP1 MSO (12.0.6213.1000)
Part of Office Professional Plus 2007
all components licenced
security mode is default
User Account Control is OFF (yes I understand the security risk, no I'm not
turning it back on)

Run Disk Cleanup.

Start | type Disk Cleanup in the Search Box |
click Disk Cleanup in the resulting list |

Periodically run Disk Cleanup.

Personally, I also use CCleaner from Piriform to clean up the trash.

Especially an unemptied or full IE cache can cause very unusual hangups and peculiar behaviour.

Some anti-virus programs can cause sufficient time-delays so that other programs don't get stroked in time. Other time-hogs are background disk defragmenters, Vista's indexing scheme.

Next time such occurs, take note of what processes are running or trying to run.

Vista is still a work-in-progress, although far better now than when initially released.
