vista upgrade with office standard

trying to update office in vista with a new, store-bought cd. my machine does
not recognise 25 character registration code. why? what am i missing?

What is the exact error that is shown . Can you post it here and also which version of Office are you trying to validate with the key

I couldn't immediately find the 25-character code for validating my purchased
copy of Office Standard. Since writing yesterday, I found the code (inside
the most environmentally-incorrect packaging imaginable), but now I get Error
message 0x80180104.
Anyway, no one ever said that upgrading to a new Windows OS would be easy,
or user-friendly.
