Visual C++ Runtime Error

S

Steven Axelrod

When trying to quit Word 2002 (or closing an email in
Outlook 2002) I get the following Microsoft Visual C++
Runtime Library Error:

"Runtime Error!

Program C:\program files\microsoft office\office 10
\winword exe

abnormal program termination"

Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Beth,

Your fix seems to work perfectly. The other problem I
have is posted above as "Article 326529 and fixmapi.exe
didn't work." The url is

us/default.mspx?

Any thoughts here?

Thanks.

Steve

Well, I spoke too soon.

Its back again. I removed the only add-in listed in
Tools\Templates and Add-Ins and, though everything was
fine for a while, its back to sporatically crashing on
exit.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

Hi Steve,

Did Word come installed as part of Works Suite? If so then you may be
encountering one of the bugs in the Works Suite Add-in. This add-in is
known to cause its share of problems, causing Word to crash when you
exit Word is just one.

Take a look in your Control Panel in Add/Remove Programs and see if
the "Microsoft Works Suite Add-in" is in the list. If found, uninstall
it. Note you are not uninstalling Works or Word, just an add-in that
supplies Works functionality in Word.

If that isn't it then another type of add-in is a COM add-in. COM are
added via the Registry rather than the Startup folders. To determine
whether or not you are using COM Add-In you can add the "COM Add-in"
command to your toolbar:

- Right-click any toolbar and select Customize
- On the Commands tab, select the Tools category
- Locate COM Add-Ins on the right
- Drag/Drop to a location of your choice

For more information on COM Add-Ins, see this article:
