Is there a symbol in ON 2007 in the notebook tabs displayed along the left
margin that indicates whether a given notebook is shared?

No. There is no technical difference between a shared and non-shared
notebook in OneNote. The notebook bar will indicate to you though
whether a notebook is local to the computer or not (a little icon on the
notebook tab indicates that).

Thanks for that info. Can you tell me what the little icon looks like that
indicates whether the notebook is local? Are you referring to the icon that
indicates that a notebook has been updated?

Yes he is. That icon shows the sync status.
